Cody Simpson has defended his girlfriend Miley Cyrus after she caused a stir by saying her bad experiences with the opposite sex led her to think she "had to be gay."
Miley made the remark during an Instagram Live session as she discussed how her relationship with Cody was different from ones she's had with men before, and later apologized after receiving backlash from fans - many of whom went as far as calling her "homophobic."
And in an interview on Australian TV show The Project on Tuesday night, Cody tried to stick up for his other half as host Carrie Bickmore questioned him about the scandal.
"Yeah she.... people took that the wrong way I think," he replied after Carrie asked him to clarify what Miley had meant.
He then backed up Miley's apology by adding: "Absolutely you don't choose who you fall for or who you love, whatever gender or who you are."
Trying to draw the questioning about Miley to a close, Cody said, "But no, she's wonderful. So..." before trailing off.
While Cody is in Australia doing press following his victory on The Masked Singer Australia, Miley is back in America - and once again hit headlines on Tuesday when she shared a series of selfies which challenged Instagram's nudity policy.
Alongside the snaps, a couple of which showed her displaying her nipples in a see-through crop top, the Mother's Daughter star wrote: "I'm getting more basic by the day. The only thing the 'new me' loves more than a mirror selfie is a self timed one. PS this is getting removed soon! I've been warned by the gram gods!"
