Ktown band releases album

Kelowna’s kindie-rock band The Oot n’ Oots dropped their newest video Dust Pan from the band's forthcoming CD Electric Jellyfish Boogaloo today on the band’s YouTube channel.

“We take great joy in making music that makes people smile, and maybe laugh a little. Our music comes from what my friend Jake calls the chicken mind: that unbridled weirdness kids tap into – that can allow a thing as mundane as a dustpan to take on a life of its own, with a whole universe spinning around it,” said frontman Ari Cipes, referencing the video for Dust Pan, the first from the forthcoming album. The video tells a classic hero’s journey of a broom looking for a lost dust pan, with the band providing the inciting incident that calls the broom to adventure.

Electric Jellyfish Boogaloo makes its debut on Friday, May 25 at Milkcrate Records (527 Lawrence Ave.) at 7 p.m. Entrance is $5 or free with an album purchase. This family friendly event is open to all ages, with tickets being sold at the door. This performance also marks the beginning of The Oot n’ Oots summer tour with dates at the St. Albert International Children’s Festival of the Arts, Smithers’ Midsummer Festival, the Kootenays’ Starbelly Jam, and more being announced soon.

The Cipes family is renowned for owning and operating Summerhill Pyramid Winery, but the spirit that moves them is rooted in music as much as grapes. Truth be told, the Western Canadian Music Awards-nominated Oot n’ Oots is an actual band of brothers: Ezra, Ari, Gabe, Matthew and Ezra’s 11-year-old daughter Ruth. Together the band writes and performs highly original songs.

And they aren’t above writing about food – in particular the organic agricultural practices that sustain the family business. You’ll get a taste of their penchant for both things imaginative and culinary in the album’s tracks.

The album is being released on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, on CD, and in the form of a limited edition lyrical colouring book sold alongside a download code. It is available by pre-order now at https://www.theootnoots.com/store/.
