Canada: The 51st State

As goes the US, so goes Canada. When the US decided, as incorrect as it was, to invade Afghanistan; Canada followed suite. When American unilaterally decided to bomb Libya, the Canadian lap dog blindly followed. When the US government decided to bailout failing auto company GM, after all fascism must prevail, the faithful servant otherwise known as the Canadian government obeyed and devised a bailout plan of its own for GM. And the list goes on and on.

What is equally disturbing to me is the Canadian publics’ new adoption of an appalling event knows as “Black Friday”. Traditionally, Thanksgiving was a time for friends and family to gather and give thanks for a new life rich in resources and free of tyranny in North America. So how do our neighbours to the south, and now here in Canada, celebrate this day? Isn’t it obvious? We trample each other to gorge ourselves on trinkets produced by slave labour in countries that have a disdain for human rights and civil and economic liberties.

The highly indebted populace of Canada and the US thrusts itself further into economic debt on this day. In the US, and coming soon to a Canadian city near you, people are trampled and pummeled as mindless mobs scurry like rats to get the latest shiny trinket that they have been lead to believe they can’t live without. I find it simple to draw a parallel between the mindless shopping mobs and the slave labour enforcers of the countries that produce the goods in question.

In our blind race to become the 51st state, I think we could easily leave behind this insane tradition of Black Friday.
