CRIME:  INTERNET FRAUD ALERT

DATE:    October 5, 2017

RCMP FILE:  2017-60377

Yet another possible internet scam has hit the Okanagan.  A local man applied for a job on a reputable job search site.  He was advised that he had the job and that the company would send him some money, offering him a commission if he transferred it back to the sender in bitcoin.  They provided detailed instruction on the money transfers.  The man became suspicious and contacted RCMP after accepting the money.  The man’s suspicions were sound as the transferred money had been obtained by hacking the bank account of an Eastern Canadian resident.
