Civic Election 2018

Are voters turning out?

It's still very early, but preliminary totals show Vernon voters are turning out to cast their ballots in the 2018 municipal election.

As of 6:30 p.m., each of the three polling stations in Vernon — Ellison Elementary, Vernon Secondary and Vernon Rec Centre — have seen more than 2,000 voters pass through today.

While this in not an official count, just what is observed at the polling stations by volunteers, the numbers being suggested are encouraging.

Totals provided by the City of Vernon earlier this week show that 2,226 Vernonites cast a ballot in advance polls and special opportunity voting.

In 2014, the last municipal election, 9,648 people total voted in Vernon.

Voters still have an opportunity to cast a ballot, with polling stations staying open until 8 p.m.
