Civic Election 2018

Lori Mindnich

Lori Mindnich

School District 22 Trustee candidate.

My name is Lori Mindnich and I have lived in Lumby & Area for 35 years. I graduated from CBSS and my children attended both JW Inglis and CBSS, and now my grandchildren are entering our school system.

A vote for me is a vote for Lumby & Cherryville Schools. While working as a team on the Board of Education, I will work hard to make sure we are not “lost in the shuffle.”

Questions

1) Why should voters cast a ballot for you October 20?

A vote for me is a vote for Lumby & Cherryville Schools. While working as a team on the Board of Education, I will work hard to make sure we are not “lost in the shuffle.”

2) What is the biggest issue facing the Vernon School District, and as a member of the board of education, how would you work to address this issue?

I think one of the biggest issues facing not just our school district, but the whole province, is the shortage of Teachers and Education Assistants.

I believe that the school board needs to work with the teachers and support staff to find out how we can assist them in their classrooms.

Our teachers want to see our children succeed, so let's work with them and set our children up for success. We need to review our busing policy. Walking 2.39 km to school is a little far for young students, especially in a rural area.

Can you picture a 5-year-old walking to Kindergarten 2 kilometres in the snow or rain, or even on a nice day? Me neither.. so this needs to change.

3) Balancing a budget while providing quality education means sometimes making difficult decisions that affect the lives of young children. Can you provide an example of a time when you were forced to make a difficult decision that affected the lives of many?

Next comes the budget. I was the Chair of the Finance Committee of the ORL from 2012- 2016.

As a Councillor, I am no stranger to the budget cycle. I am also aware that sometimes we need to think of the good of the whole.

We need to put our students first, we owe it to them to be the best school district that we can be. We need to work together to make our region a model that other districts want to emulate.

Our Rural Schools Matter.
