New poll shows half of Canadians have never lived a worse year

Is 2020 the worst year ever?

Is 2020 the worst year ever? Half of Canadians seem to think so, according to a new opinion poll.

The survey, conducted by polling firm Leger and the Association for Canadian Studies, reveals about 50 per cent of respondents answered 'yes' to the question: Up until now, is 2020 the worst year you've ever lived?

British Columbians and Quebecers are the most optimistic about 2020, but it's not far off the average, reports CTV News.

About 46 per cent of respondents from B.C. and Quebec report this year has been the worst they have ever experienced, while 54 per cent of people from other provinces such as Ontario could name a worse one.

Young people are reportedly the most upset by how 2020 has gone, with 56 per cent of Canadian respondents aged 18 to 34 saying it has been the worst year.

According to the poll, the two highest drivers of worst-year-ever determinations are the death of a loved one and personal problems, which incorporates stress, anxiety and uncertainty about the future.

The survey was conducted online between Aug. 7-9 involving about 1,500 respondents and results were weighted to ensure a representative population sample.
