Divided over meat substitute

A new survey has found there's a significant generational divide when it comes to plant-based meat alternatives like the Beyond Meat burger.

The Angus Reid Institute recently surveyed 1,530 Canadians and found younger people are more likely to have tried meat replacements than older folk. While 58 per cent of 18-34 year olds have tried them, just 27 per cent of those over 55 have.

Of those who haven't tried them, younger people appear to be more open minded as well, with 48 per cent very likely or fairly likely to give these meat alternatives a try, compared with just 26 per cent of those over 55.

Eighty per cent of all respondents said they liked or loved the taste of the meat alternatives they've tried.

The survey was conducted between July 24 and 27, amongst a randomized sample of 1,530 Canadians. The survey carries a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
