Alan Frew Facebook

A 95-year-old resident of an Alberta seniors' home was told she had a surprise waiting for her in the cafeteria on Friday afternoon.

She said it better be a good one, as she was due for bingo.

Sure enough, one of her favourite bands was there waiting to meet her as they drove through town between gigs on their Canadian tour.

Glass Tiger lead singer Alan Frew shared the video of the meeting and a surprise performance in a public post on Facebook Saturday.

An assistant at the facility contacted Frew with the story of the "long-time fan" who had been listening to a Glass Tiger CD on her personal stereo in her room. The assistant contacted the band to see if they could stop by on their way to their next gig on the tour to meet their senior supporter. They did one better.

Jean Savage, 95, sported a wide grin and clapped along as Frew and company performed an impromptu yet flawless rendition of "Someday" for her.

Frew said desite their tight schedule of performances and travel, he made a point of visiting Savage.

"We are slammed on this run, tired, beat up, on a tight schedule but I asked the guys to come with me and do me this favour but more importantly, for this dear, sweet, lady," Frew said. "And so we pulled the bus up at the lodge and entered together, much to Jean’s surprise and amazement."

"Her face when I approached her was beyond priceless and we shared the biggest hug. I then introduced her to everyone and they each hugged her one by one," Frew recounted in his post. "We chatted before I spied a piano in the corner and now as they say, 'The rest is history.'"

"Thank you Jean, you probably think we gave a gift to you. Believe me, nothing could be farther from the truth. You are the gift," Frew said.
