Quebec Premier Francois Legault says more than 100 tourists trapped at a Haitian resort are expected to be flown to safety Saturday.
Legault told reporters in Montreal today that helicopters will be used to ferry Quebec tourists from the Royal Decameron resort to the airport in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince.
From there they will be flown home by Air Transat, the company with which they booked vacation packages before violent protests blocked highways across the country.
Legault says three helicopters with room for 20 passengers each will be deployed. They will make two trips to transport the 113 passengers.
The federal government issued an advisory late Thursday saying Canadians should avoid all travel to the Caribbean country. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters in Ottawa today the government is working to help Canadians trapped by the crisis return home.
