Statistics Canada says the consumer price index in December was up 2.0 per cent compared with year ago.
The move compared with a year-over-year increase of 1.7 per cent for November.
Economists had expected a year-over-year increase of 1.7 per cent for December, according to Thomson Reuters Eikon.
