Casual Labour Week

The Kelowna Human Resource Centre for Students (HRCC-S) is holding its annual Casual Labour Week this week from July 4th to Saturday, July 8th.

The Sweep our Streets campaign starts off the week. For every job vacancy posted on Monday, we will sweep and clean 20m of sidewalk along Harvey Ave. from Abbott St. east on Tuesday starting at 10:00 AM. On Wednesday from 11:00 AM-3:00 PM we will be at the Kelowna Wal-Mart providing information on our casual labour program to interested youth and employers. On Thursday from 12:00 PM-3:00 PM we will be at Gyro Beach with a similar information table, encouraging youth to engage in casual labour work. A free car wash on Friday from 11:00 AM-3:00 PM at the Mohawk at Harvey and Burtch will wrap up Kelowna’s Casual Labour Week 2005.

“Casual Labour Week is a region-wide initiative for the HRCC-Ss,” said William Haworth, Student Employment Officer of the Kelowna HRCC-S. “This year, we are continuing our tradition of helping young people find summer employment. Casual Labour Week is a way to highlight the importance of getting and safely performing that first job for some students, or finding short-term career-related work experience for others.”

HRCC-Ss link youth and employers, and provide young people with job postings, interview advice, résumé building and job search strategies. The HRCC-S provides employers with a location to post both short and long-term job openings. The HRCC-S also provides valuable information on health and safety in the workplace. All of our services are provided without charge.

Employers interested in using our services and students looking for summer employment can contact the Kelowna HRCC-S at 250-762-JOBS (5627).
