New season launched

"Because we all shine on. Like the moon, the stars and the sun. Everyone.”

The house was hot as New Vintage Theatre launched its fourth season, We All Shine On, at The Black Cat Cabaret this past weekend.

The annual fundraiser/season launch is known for being a raucous affair, but this year's event was particularly lively because of the high caliber of plays vying for the Black Cat Cup. A 10 Minute Play competition, as well as showgirls and actors from The Full Monty, increased the excitement among patrons.

It is not easy to choose a season that will offer insight, innovation, and interest for audiences, but it is a lot of fun reading, researching, and seeing plays that may be a good fit.

Here are my choices for the fourth season, named for John Lennon's song, Instant Karma, which includes the famous line, ‘we all shine on’ - words I live by.

So here it is. Drumroll, please, for New Vintage Theatre's Season Four.

The Great Gatsby
F.Scott Fitzgerald's sweeping, elegant tale of love and money comes to Kelowna July 2016 at the Mary Irwin Theatre.

Shakespeare's Macbeth
Something wicked this way comes. The Scottish play as you have never seen or imagined, coming October 2016 to the Black Box Theatre.

Yeti, the Untold Story of The Abominable Snow Monster
After our hit Christmas show, we wanted to do another show for families. This year's tale is about the Yeti, a lonely snow monster with a song in his heart who eagerly sets out to find his family to share his holidays. Along the way, he encounters the forgotten and overlooked characters of Christmas stories and fairy tales who teach him that friendship and understanding can be just as important as family. Plays in November 2016, at the Mary Irwin Theatre.

With Bells On
What happens when a conservative businessman gets trapped in an elevator with a transvestite en route to a Christmas Queen Pageant? This unconventional play is heart-warming holiday fun for audiences. It should not be missed. Runs December 2016 at the Hothouse Theatre.

The Black Cat Cabaret & 10 Minute Play Festival
The cat is back next February 2017. Don't miss this great show, Feb. 25 & 26, at the Black Box Theatre.

Kelowna Fan Xpo 2017
With this event just six weeks away, it is hard to believe we are already planning for next year - but we are, so mark your calendars for the third weekend in March for Kelowna's biggest celebration of pop culture, performance and art. There is just one KFX.

Rock Of Ages
It's THE big one. This rock musical features favourite hits from glam metal bands from the 1980s, including Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Poison, Styx and others. Look for it in spring 2016.
