Ticket For Doors Off

Q: I have a 1981 Toyota Landcruiser. In the summer when I take my top off, can I take the doors off? The shoulder harness of the seat belt is anchored on the roll bar. The reason why I ask is I just purchased the truck, and heard through some one where I work, you can get a ticket for taking the doors off. He also told me on the Jeeps, that the doors on a CJ 5 to CJ 7 can come off, but not on YJ or TJ models. Also can the windshield be dropped down when driving?

A: The driver of a vehicle which has removable doors shall not drive that vehicle on a roadway with the doors removed. It is legal to remove the doors when using the vehicle while off road. Some earlier versions of the Jeep had doors offered as an "option." These particular vehicles are exempt.

The windshield on these types of vehicles are built in such a way that they can be folded onto the hood of the vehicle. It is legal to drive with the windshield folded down.

Equipment required
Section 7.01 (1) of the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations indicates that subject to subsection (2), no person shall drive or operate a vehicle on a highway unless the vehicle is equipped as required by this Division.
(2) An antique motor vehicle or a collector motor vehicle not originally designed and manufactured to be in compliance with sections 7.02 to 7.04, 705 (3), (4) and (7), 7.06, 7.09, 7.16, 7.161 (4) and 7.19 need not be equipped as required by those sections.
