Blanleil's pair leads Vees past Kings

After starting the season with six games on the road, fans of the Penticton Vees finally got to see their team in action for the first time since winning the National Championship last year.

And they wouldn't go home disappointed as the Vees blanked the Powell River Kings 4-0 Saturday night at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

The win is the Vees third in a row and fourth in their last five games.

After a dazzling pre-game ceremony that included the raising of the 2012 RBC Cup banner, the Vees went to work in the opening period.

Louie Nanne opened the scoring on a deflection of a Wade Murphy shot, redirecting the rubber past Jonah Imoo at 5:10 for his first BCHL goal.

Despite out shooting the Kings 13-5 n the first period, Penticton wouldn't get on the board again until the second.

The Vees broke through with two goals 25 seconds apart. The first from Travis Blanleil, who like Nanne, tipped a point-shot over the glove of Imoo at 7:50.  Bryan Sinz, who assisted on Blanleil’s goal, scored at 8:15.

In the third, the Vees padded their lead with a late power-play marker from Blanleil, who shovelled the puck past a downed Kings goaltender at 19:07.

There were only four penalties called the entire game, with Powell River taking three of them, all in the third period.

The Vees are home to Prince George on Sunday, game time is 5:00 p.m.
