Penticton Vees take down West Kelowna Warriors and keep win streak going

The Penticton Vees extended their win streak to 19 games with an 11-2 triumph over the West Kelowna Warriors on Friday at the SOEC.

Brothers Bradly and Josh Nadeau were proving their skills with a combined nine points for the game, including a second career hat-trick and four points in the win for Bradly. Older brother Josh had a pair of goals as part of a five-point effort.

Aydar Suniev, Ryan Hopkins, and Josh Niedermayer each had three points. 11 Vees had multi-point games and all but three skaters had at least one point.

The Vees had a close call early in the first, with the Warriors close to taking an early lead, but the Vees’ captain’s quick thinking kept it scoreless.

Penticton started off with three goals in a span of two minutes and five seconds, with Brett Moravec opening the scoring at 4:09, followed by Aydar Suniev’s goal 27 seconds later, then it was Josh Nadeau scoring on the power play at 6:14.

The West Kelowna stormed back with two in under two minutes late in the first period to close the gap by one goal. Ben MacDonald scored on a breakaway for the Warriors to make it 3-1, then one minute and 42 seconds later it was Rylee Hlusiak scoring to make it 3-2.

Early in the second, the Vees were holding a 3-2 lead, Ryan Hopkins saved a goal with a diving shot block with the goalie out of the net.

Josh and Bradly Nadeau each scored. along with Thomas Pichette, and Hopkins, as the Vees led 7-2 by the end of the middle period.

Bradly scored twice in the third period to earn himself a hat trick. Niedermayer and Hiroki Gojsic scored back-to-back power-play goals to cap off the scoring.

The Vees' 11 goals is a season-high, bettering their previous high-water mark of 10, also set against the Warriors.

Penticton will face off against Prince George Spruce Kings on Saturday night at 6 p.m. at the SOEC.
