West Kelowna Warriors face their toughest three-game stretch of the young BCHL season

Warriors face tough stretch

The pre-game speeches may be similar in the dressing rooms of the West Kelowna Warriors and Salmon Arm Silverbacks prior to Friday's first place showdown.

Both teams likely look at this weekend's head-to-head, back-to-back games as both a yardstick on where they are in this young season, and as a chance to make a statement to the rest of the league.

The Warriors come into the weekend the hottest team in the BCHL. They have won seven straight since dropping the second game at the Showcase in Chilliwack.

At 11-2, they sit atop the overall BCHL standings.

The Silverbacks are just a point back.

After starting the season 9-0-1-0 including a seven game streak of their own, they dropped back-to-back games at home to Cranbrook last weekend.

Salmon Arm bounced back with a 4-2 win in Vernon Wednesday.

Both games in this early season slugfest are being played in Salmon Arm, a building which has not been friendly to the Warriors of late.

The Warriors are winless in their past 10 regular season trips to the Shaw Centre since a 4-3 victory Feb. 15, 2017.

Tyler Cristall and Felix Trudeau come into the weekend two of the hottest players in the league.

Cristall has goals in seven straight games and points in his last 11, while Trudeau is riding a six game goal scoring streak and has points in his last nine.

Trudeau is seventh in league scoring with 11 goals and 19 points in 13 games. Captain Elan Bar Lev Wise has eight goals and 17 points on the season.

The Silverbacks are led by overage forward Simon Tassy and 18-year-old Noah Serdachny.

Tassey is fifth in league scoring with a league-leading 13 goals and 20 points while Serdachny has five goals and 17 points.

These are the first two of just five meetings between the Interior Division rivals this season.

The remaining three games will all be played at Royal LePage Place.
