The West Kelowna Warriors took a moment to recognize and commemorate the "history and legacy" of residential schools in Canada..
Players, dressed in orange, learned the history behind the day and took part in a traditional "smudging ceremony."
The ceremony, which connects people to the Creator and provides communities with a way to gain spiritual protection and blessings, and to improve spiritual health, was performed by Tasha Swite, owner of Spirit of the Lake Native Boutique.
"It's an important day of education and awareness for our country," said Warriors president Chris Laurie.
"WFN is a pillar of our community, and we're really pleased our team was able to participate in an Indigenous ritual."
