Jason Cotton a top-10 finalist for Hobey Baker award

Ex-Warrior in hunt for Hobey

Two former BC Hockey League stars are among the remaining 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award.

The award is handed out annually to the top NCAA hockey player.

Included in the list, former West Kelowna Warrior Jason Cotton.

The Sacred Heart University senior played two seasons with the Warriors from 2013 to 2015.

In 108 regular season games with the Warriors, Cotton amassed 50 goals and 117 points.

This season, Cotton led the Atlantic Conference in both goals (20) and scoring (38 points) in 34 games.

He was also named conference player of the year and a first-team all-star.

Former Chilliwack forward Jordan Kawaguchi was also named a top 10 finalist.

Kawaguchi finished second in the nation in scoring with 45 points during his junior season at North Dakota.

Other finalists include:

  • F John Leonard – Jr. – University of Massachusetts
  • G Dryden McKay – So. – Minnesota State University
  • F Marc Michaelis – Sr. – Minnesota State University
  • D Scott Perunovich – Jr. – University of Minnesota-Duluth
  • G Jeremy Swayman – Jr. – University of Maine

The three finalists, determined by a 30-person selection committee and fan voting, will be announced April 2.
