West Kelowna Warriors have a date with ringette

Warriors trade puck for ring

If last year is any indication, the West Kelowna Warriors are in for a big culture shock when they swap their curved sticks and puck for a ringette stick and ring.

The Warriors will take a break from the rigors of the playoff race for a fun, and mostly friendly game of ringette against a Kelowna over-18 all-star team.

The Battle of the Blades first began in 2013, but ramped up when Warriors staff member Grace Dixon entered the competition.

Admission is $5 with all proceeds going to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The Stollery is a Children’s Hospital based in Edmonton.

This foundation is particularly special to both parties because this is where the Warriors biggest fan and supporter, Brendan Ritchie is undergoing treatment for Pulmonary Hypertension.

Pulmonary hypertension is a condition where the blood flow that leaves the right side of the heart faces an increased resistance (pressure), this makes it hard for Brendan to perform high intensity exercise.

The Stollery is a full-service pediatric hospital that treats infants, children and youth with complex conditions.

The game is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16 at Royal LePage Place.
