Vees comeback falls short in 4-3 loss to the Wild

A Penticton Vees come-from-behind effort fell short Wednesday night as they fell 4-3 on the road to the Wenatchee Wild.

For the third straight game, the Vees were first to hit the scoreboard courtesy of Colton Kalezic in the opening five minutes of play. The Wild would respond with three goals in the first and second period from Brett Chorske, Harrison Scott  and Matt Dorsey.

The Vees battled back and got the game to within a goal in their comeback effort three minutes into the third with a goal from Darwin Lakoduk, but the Wild were quick to respond again, holding a 4-2 lead at the 4:38 mark of the third frame.

Jackson Niedermayer would bring the Vees to within one with a goal with five minutes left in the game. After pulling their goalie for a 6-on-5 attack in the dying minutes of the game, the Vees were inches away from tying the game when David Silye hit a post

Vees goaltender Yaniv Perets stopped 22 of the 26 shots thrown his way in his 6th defeat of the season while Daniel Chenard turned aside 29 of the 32 shots he faced.

The Vees remain stop the BCHL Interior Division and trail just Coquitlam in the league-wide standings.

The Vees (23-9-1-0) return home for their annual Teddy Bear Toss, taking place on Friday night against the West Kelowna Warriors (5-19-4-2) to begin a weekend home-and-home set. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 p.m. from the South Okanagan Events Centre with fans encouraged to bring new or gently used stuffed animals, socks, toques, mittens and diapers (wrapped in plastic) to throw onto the ice after the Vees opening goal.
