The West Kelowna Warriors fell 2-1 in Powell River Friday

Warriors offence dries up

The West Kelowna Warriors offensive woes continued Friday in the opening game of a three-game Island Division road trip.

The Warriors managed just a single goal in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Powell River Kings, a team that has had their own troubles of late finding the back of the net.

The Warriors have scored just eight goals during a six-game losing streak. They were shutout twice during that span, and needed Jacob Brockman's first BCHL goal with less than eight minutes to go to avoid being shutout in back-to-back games.

Powell River built up a 2-0 lead with goals in each of the first two periods.

Nic Porchetta got the home side on the board 14 minutes into the opening period before Hunter McCoy doubled the lead, beating Johnny Derrick early in the second.

That's all the offence they would get, or need.

The Warriors pushed for the tying goal after Brockman cut the deficit to one, but were unable to find the equalizer.

The road trip continues for the Warriors Saturday in Alberni Valley and Sunday in Cowichan Valley.
