Vees flatten Warriors 9-1

The Penticton Vees flattened the West Kelowna Warriors 9 - 1 in preseason action Wednesday night at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

The Vees started the game strong with an early 7-1 shot advantage and opening goal six minutes in. West Kelowna would tie the game four minutes into the second, but then the flood gates opened.

Danny Weight opened the five-goal 2nd period barrage, knocking in a Carson Kosobud shot from the right point at the 6:33 mark to give the Vees a 2-1 lead.

Thirteen seconds later, Jay O’Brien added a marker of his own. A three-goal-in-47-seconds stretch came to an end with the tally of Alex DiPaolo, picking up his 3rd goal of the preseason at the 7:20 mark of the second.

By the time the dust settled, the Vees scored nine.

Jay O’Brien led the night with four points — a goal and three assists. David Sylie scored a pair while the remainder of the scoring was well distributed throughout the team.

West Kelowna put just 15 shots on net, compared to Penticton’s 44.

The Vees return to action Friday night at the SOEC when they host the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Brooks Bandits for a pair of preseason games. Tickets are just $5.

The Warriors will hit the road, playing in Trail on Friday night.

Regular season action opens Sept. 6 for both teams.
