Ex Warrior coach gets gig

Geoff Grimwood didn't stay unemployed for long.

Grimwood, who was let go by the West Kelowna Warriors Jan. 28, is the new head coach and GM of the Swan Valley Stampeders of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

During a tumultuous season at the helm, Grimwood led the Warriors to a 25-21-0-1 record.

He was hired last summer as an assistant under then head coach Rylan Ferster, but assumed interim head coaching duties after Ferster stepped down prior to training camp.

Grimwood was fired just prior to the start of the regular season, but was reinstated two days later after the players refused to go on the ice and the league stepped in.

He takes over a Swan Valley team that finished second to the Portage Terriers in the regular season, and fell to the Terriers in overtime of game seven in the MJHL final.

Grimwood replaces Barry Wolff, who recently accepted the job as head coach and GM of the Merritt Centennials.
