Warriors add 2 commits

The West Kelowna Warriors have received commitments from two more players as they continue to shape next season's roster.

The Warriors Wednesday added 18-year-old forward Ryan Upson and 18-year-old goaltender Evan Fradette.

Upson, a native of West Vancouver, has spent the past three seasons with the West Van Academy prep squad.

Last season, he scored 18 times and added 42 assists in 32 games.

“Ryan is going to have a bright future with us here in West Kelowna”, said head coach and GM Brandon West. 

“He’s had three great seasons of development at the West Van Academy under Steve Marr and we look forward to continuing that here. Ryan is a 200 foot player that competes hard and plays the game the right way. He has produced every season through midget and has a skill set that will compliment his linemates well.”

Upson does have some BCHL experience, playing nine games witht he Vernon Vipers as an affiliated player last season, notching a single assist.

Fradette, meantime, spent the last two years with the St. Albert Raiders midget AAA squad.

He was named the Alberta Midget Hockey League's playoff MVP .

Fradette posted a 2.35 goals against average in 14 regular season games and a 2.17 GAA in 11 post season contests.

“Evan is coming off a tremendous season and we look forward to continuing his development here”, said West.

“Evan was a key factor in his St Albert Raiders winning the Mac’s Midget Tournament in Calgary and led his team to the finals in the Alberta Midget League. Evan is a big game goaltender who has the ability to make a real name for himself. His attitude and dedication to the position is what I really like about him. He wants to be in the net and give his team a chance to win every game.”

The Warriors open training camp at the end of August.
