The Penticton Vees have announced their new captain, Massimo Rizzo, has received an invite for the summer selection camp of the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
The camp takes place in Calgary at the end of July in advance of the tournament Aug 6-11 in Edmonton and Red Deer.
Formerly the Ivan Hlinka Memorial, the event features 18 games over the six days between the best U18 prospects from around the world. Teams from Canada, the United States, Russia, Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Switzerland.
Rizzo was named Vees captain for next season in May. Last year, he scored 13 goals and 26 assists in 50 games, finishing second amongst 16 year olds.
Canada has seen unprecedented success at this tournament since it began in 1991, medaling in 24 out of 27 years including 21 golds.
