Okanagan Sun grabbed eight of 13 major BCFC awards

Sun dominate BCFC awards

The Okanagan Sun dominated the BC Football Conference in 2024, finishing the season with a perfect 10-0 record.

Tuesday, a number of players were recognized for their part in that dominating season as the BC Football Conference announced its major award winners for the 2024 campaign.

In all, the Sun grabbed eight of the 13 awards announced Tuesday, led by double award winners Jacob Bond and Elelyon Noa.

Bond was named both outstanding linebacker and outstanding defensive player. He led the league in tackles with 60. He also recovered two fumbles and intercepted a pass.

Noa was named both outstanding offensive back and outstanding offensive player.

In 2024, he established league records for rushing yards in a season (1,612) and points (150).

He also set team records for rushing attempts in a game (41) and a season (216), as well as rushing touchdowns (23) and overall touchdowns (25).

Quarterback Marek Filipek was named the league’s outstanding offensive rookie, passing for 1,316 yards and nine touchdowns.

Ahmed Borhot, who led the league with eight interruptions, was named the outstanding defensive back while Kaiden Kerntopf was named the outstanding offensive lineman.

Head coach Travis Miller was named the league’s top coach.

The Langley Rams and Kamloops Broncos scooped up the remaining individual awards.

Kaleb Senz of the Broncos grabbed two awards as well, being named both the top special team’s player and top returner.

Terrel Jones was named the top receiver, Isaiah Cooper the top defensive lineman and CJ Augustine the top defensive rookie.

The Sun and Westshore Rebels meet Saturday afternoon in the Cullen Cup championship.

Kickoff is 3 p.m. at the Apple Bowl.
