Nelson and Castlegar flash flood

Here is raw video of the flooding in Nelson.

Flash floods have hit  Castlegar and the surrounding area. The rush of water was caused by thunderstorms that hit the area Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier, Highway 3A just north of Castlegar at Thrums was closed due to a mudslide and it was the same for Pass Creek Road.  DriveBC reports Hwy. 3A was open again at Brilliant as of 7:15 p.m. Tuesday night.

Witnesses say many streets in Castlegar flooded.  Driving conditions in the area are reported to be dangerous due to standing water on the roads and main highways.

Nelson was also hit hard, roads in the town flooded, and manhole covers were blown off from the force of the water that was too much for the sewer and run off systems. The high water also stranded several vehicles.

Crews are working to clear roads and they are blocking the ones that have become impassible.
