Ladysmith man faces attempted-murder charges after road-rage shooting

Shots fired in road rage

A Ladysmith man is facing attempted-murder charges after allegedly firing a gun into a vehicle following what police describe as a road-rage incident.

Nanaimo RCMP say witnesses described seeing two vehicles come to a stop at a red light after an altercation on the road while heading northbound on the Nanaimo Parkway.

A man exited one of the vehicles with a gun and fired into the other before both drivers ran away. Police received multiple calls about the shooting.

Mounties tracked down the victim and the suspect based on information provided by witnesses.

Nanaimo RCMP officers located a 17-year-old youth in the Departure Bay area who said he was driving the vehicle that was fired at and whose vehicle had sustained damage consistent with gunfire.

Officers then found the suspect and his vehicle in the Cedar area. He was taken into custody without incident, and several firearms were seized from his vehicle.

Reza Rahiman has been charged with attempted murder and discharging a firearm with intent to injure or wound. He remains in custody.

Police are seeking dash-cam video and eye-witnesses to the altercation on the road and the shooting. Anyone who has not yet spoken to police is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 and reference file # 2023-4128.
