BC Transit has ended its COVID-19 vaccine mandate for staff.
The Crown corporation says the policy change, effective Thursday, was made in alignment with Translink and “other provincial Crown agencies.”
BC Transit publicly disclosed the step a day after news of a similar decision by Translink.
“Safety is our top priority, and as we have throughout the pandemic, our organization will continue to follow the guidance of the Provincial Health Officer and WorkSafeBC,” said BC Transit in a statement to Castanet.
BC Transit provides transit services to communities outside of Metro Vancouver. It has been experiencing an extraordinary shortage of drivers since the onset of the pandemic, a situation that was only exacerbated by the vaccine mandate.
