Man found shot in car in Surrey was from Edmonton

Found shot in car

A man found dying in a running car in Surrey had been shot, the B.C. Lower Mainland's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has confirmed.

The man, identified as 27-year old Richard Ofosuhene of Edmonton, Alta., was found near the 8800 block of 127th Street on Sept. 20. First responders tried to revive him, but he died of his injuries.

Ofosuhene was known to police and had drug trafficking ties in his home province of Alberta, confirmed IHIT Wednesday.

That prompted police to cordon off the area in search of information.

“Despite lifesaving efforts, the man did not survive,” wrote a Surrey RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Vanessa Munn in a press release.

Cpl. Munn did not specify the nature of the man’s injuries, but said “criminality is believed to be a factor.”

Investigators said they believe the shooting death was an isolated incident and does not appear to be connected to the Lower Mainland gang conflict.

“A motive has yet to be confirmed,” said IHIT in a press release.

IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti said investigators are still calling on anyone who was in the area of 88 Avenue and 127 Street between 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m to speak with Surrey RCMP to contact the homicide unit at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at [email protected].
