Weather helping fight against wildfire near Hope, B.C.

Hope fire now 'held'

UPDATE 6:20 p.m.

The B.C. Wildfire Service says the Flood Falls Trail wildfire outside Hope, B.C. is now considered “held.”

That means the fire is not expected to grow under current conditions.

The fire will also no longer be considered a “fire of note” as of Friday.

Cooler, damp weather over the past few days have helped fire crews significantly.

ORIGINAL 9:45 a.m.

Cooler weather and higher humidity is “significantly” helping firefighting efforts at the Flood Falls Trail fire southwest of Hope.

The 545-hectare fire is burning in very steep slopes above Highway 1, meaning the blaze is still very visible to drivers.

“Values at risk from this wildfire include infrastructure along the Highway 1 corridor,” BCWS said.

Crews are working along Highway 1 and the Hunter Creek Forest Service Road while helicopters bucket the east and west flanks.

“Inflow winds this week will continue to bring cloud, decreasing temperatures and higher humidity. The current weather is helping wildfire efforts significantly,” BCWS said Thursday morning.

“Smoke and cloudy conditions are expected to continue in this area, however. Showers are anticipated later this week.”

Nearby residents and travellers on Highway 1 should expect to see smoky conditions for the next few days at least.
