122 km/h in a 60 km/h zone

A man in the Kootenays lost the use of his vehicle for a week after being clocked traveling at more than double the speed limit.

In a news release, the Trail RCMP says officers conducting a traffic patrol on May 6 at 12:22 p.m. observed a 2008 yellow Lotus sports car travelling at 122 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.

The sports car was travelling in the 3000 block of Highway 3B, in Trail, BC.

The officer detained the 54-year-old Montrose man and his Lotus roadside for speeding roadside.

He was issued a $483 fine for excessive speeding and the Lotus was impounded for up to seven days.

“Trail RCMP will be out conducting traffic enforcement as the busy summer months’ approach. Please watch your speed and be considerate of other drivers on the roadway,” Sgt. Mike Wicentowich
