Rookie RCMP officer comes to the rescue, helps deliver baby in hospital parking lot

Rookie baby delivery

She’s only been on the job for six months, but Chilliwack RCMP officer Constable Sise Odaa already has a story she can tell her grandchildren.

The officer was on night shift Monday, Jan. 17, 2022, responding to an unrelated call to Chilliwack General Hospital when she heard yelling and screaming and calls for help coming from the parking lot.

She rushed over to see what was going on and found a woman in labour. Constable Odaa arrived just in time to assist the grandmother, cradling the newborn as it was being delivered.

“It was an amazing experience to be part of,” said Constable Sise Odaa. “I joined the RCMP to help people and am so happy that I was able to help in this very special way.”

Little Sahara Acacia Den Ouden and her mom are healthy and doing fine. The baby weighed in at 5 lbs 6 ounces.
