The provincial government has released a new schedule for Kicking Horse Canyon project on Highway 1, which will reopen the link through the Rockies on Dec. 1.
Starting Wednesday Dec. 1 until Thursday Dec. 23, single lane alternating traffic will be in effect from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The highway will be closed from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly.
Drivers can expect delays of up to 30 minutes, so if you’re driving in the area you may want to consider using the alternate route via Hwy 95 and Hwy 93S.
Highway 1 through Kicking Horse Canyon remains completely closed until Dec. 1.
The Kicking Horse Canyon is one of the most rugged and scenic sections of the Trans-Canada Highway, carrying 10,000 vehicles a day in the summer.
The provincial government has gradually been upgrading 21 kilometres of narrow, winding two-lane highway into a modern four-lane 100 km/h standard roadway. It is a part of a larger $837 million project underway upgrading Highway 1 between Kamloops and Alberta.
