Heavy snow will continue to fall over the Kootenays and Rogers Pass, with upwards of 40 cm forecast to fall on some mountain passes.

About 10 cm of snow fell on the Trans-Canada Highway between Eagle Pass and Rogers Pass overnight, and another 35 cm is expected to fall by Friday afternoon.

“About 10 cm has fallen last night with another round of heavy snow of up to 20 cm expected to develop over the Trans-Canada Highway - Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass today,” Environment Canada said in a winter storm warning Thursday morning.

“An additional 10 cm is forecast on Friday possibly bringing storm totals reaching 40 cm. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.”

Meanwhile, more snow is expected to continue on Highway 3 between Paulson Summit and Kootenay Pass. The heavy snowfall is expected to ease by Friday afternoon.

Heavy rain continues to fall on the coast as well, where upwards of 80 mm is forecast to fall over Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.

The Okanagan will largely avoid the the bulk of the precipitation that other areas of the province are being hit with.
