Man spotted with large knife inside Abbotsford high school

Knife wielding man sought

Abbotsford police are investigating after a man was spotted with a large knife inside a secondary school at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Abbotsford police have shared a photo of a suspect holding a knife inside a bathroom at Yale Secondary School.

CTV News Vancouver is reporting the incident prompted police to initiate security measures at three schools in Abbotsford. As a precaution Yale Secondary and neighbouring W.A. Fraser Middle School were locked down, while nearby McMillian Elementary School was issued a shelter-in-place order.

"At no time did the male suspect threaten any students or staff," the Abbotsford Police Department stated in a news release. Anyone with any information or video of the incident is asked to call Abbotsford Police at 604-859-5225.

Despite reports the person wielding the knife was showing another student, all available on-duty officers and the RCMP police helicopter converged on Yale Secondary. An extensive search turned up no trace of the suspect and no one was injured during the incident.

"At this time, investigators have confirmed that the suspect departed the area of Yale Secondary by vehicle and was dropped off at the intersection of Gladwin Road and South Fraser Way," police said in their release.
