Vancouver's Stanley Park seawall closed by storm damage

Seawall battered by storm

The storm that wreaked havoc across southern B.C. this week also beat up one of Vancouver’s favourite footpaths.

Images on social media shows chunks of the Stanley Park seawall are missing and the asphalt footpath cracked and crumbling in one section.

The damage was confirmed to be a result of the recent storm by the Vancouver Park Board, which is now working to repair the section and clean up debris.

In the storm’s aftermath, the board closed the seawall between Third Beach and English Bay.

No announcement has been made to reopen the section.

The Park Board did not give a timeline for when repairs would be completed.

Scaling of the rocky slopes along the seawall is also being done to reduce risk of rock and debris slides onto the pedestrian and cycling path.
