Slide completely wipes out Trans-Canada at Tank Hill east of Lytton

Part of Hwy 1 wiped out

The Trans-Canada Highway has been completely washed out at the Tank Hill rail overpass east of Lytton.

Aerial photos published by the provincial government shows Highway 1 has been fully washed into the Thompson River where the railway passes over the road. The rail line remains in one piece.

There is no estimated time of reopening for Highway 1.

The slide is among several that have come crashing down on BC Highways Sunday and Monday. The Coquihalla, Highway 1 in the Fraser Valley, Highway 3 and Highway 7 are all closed.

There is currently no route between the Lower Mainland and the rest of Canada.
