Police investigating pedestrian struck and killed while crossing the street in East Vancouver

Vancouver has suffered their 18th pedestrian fatality of the year, after a 59-year-old man was struck and killed in East Vancouver on Saturday evening.

Investigators stated that they believe the man was crossing Kingsway, near St. Catherines Street, around 7 p.m. when he was struck by a car that was heading west.

The man was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police stated that the driver involved in the collision remained on scene while officers arrived.

VPD’s Collision investigation Unit is working to determine the cause of the collision. At this time, speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash-cam video to contact the Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012.
