Preparation for avalanche season begins on Highway 1 between Three Valley Gap and Revelstoke

Avalanche control begins

It may not be winter in the valley bottoms yet, but a sure sign snow is on its way is the return of avalanche control on the Trans-Canada Highway between the B.C. Interior and Alberta border.

DriveBC reports avalanche control preparations are underway west of Revelstoke between Three Valley Gap and the Clanwilliam bridge.

The highway may be closed intermittently.

Expect 20-minute delays.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transportation says the highway will be closed for three hours on Tuesday next week for blasting at Three Valley Gap.

The blasting is required to install an additional 130 metres of rockfall fence as an expansion to the existing fencing installed in 2018.
