There's a new online, independent way to camp in the Okanagan

There's a new way for outdoor enthusiasts to research and book stays at hundreds of hosts sites across Canada and right here in the Okanagan.

Hipcamp Canada launched in the spring of 2021, making it easy to find and book tent camping, glamping, cabins, treehouses, yurts, and RV parks.

"In just three short months Hipcamp has signed thousands of Canadian Hosts from coast-to-coast, providing much-needed alternative revenue streams to rural landowners," says Canadian general manager, Tegh Singh Bedi.

According to Hipcamp's internal data, the average Hipcamper will spend $380 at local coffee shops, restaurants, and gear stores. "Since launch, Hipcamp’s community of campers has already injected more than $1M back into the pockets of small businesses in Canada," Singh Bedi says.

Daryn Reece has been a host on Hipcamp since March of 2021 explains why he decided to become a host.

"In B.C., finding camping sites can be at times challenging as there’s so much demand, so we wanted to provide unique sites that people could benefit from to experience the Okanagan."

Reece's camping sites are located near Peachland and start at $40 per night.

"Since opening our site we’ve been able to meet so many people from different walks of life around the world. It’s been amazing to bring in people to experience our community and help provide new accommodations to people looking for new and exciting ways to camp," Reece says.

Since launching in Canada this June, Hipcamp has signed up over 250 Hipcamp sites in B.C.

"Though we are bracing for the colder months ahead, we plan on continuing to make Canadians excited to spend time outdoors and enjoy the incredible opportunities winter camping and winter outdoor adventures have to offer. We are proud to continue to provide additional revenue streams to Hipcamp Hosts and rural landowners in B.C. as traditional camping and summer tourism winds down," Bedi says.
