That record didn’t last long.
The Upper Fraser Canyon community of Lytton has for the second day in a row smashed the all-time high Canadian temperature record.
Environment Canada says at 4 p.m., the mercury in Lytton reached 47.5 C.
“This is a preliminary number as heating may continue for another hour,” Environment Canada tweeted, adding nn official summary of records will be posted later today.
Monday’s record tops Sunday’s all-time high of 46.6 C. Prior to that, the all-time Canada high was 45 C, set in Midale and Yellow Grass, Sask. on July 5, 1937.
Environment Canada is reporting that temperatures will stay at their current extreme levels until at least Wednesday. After that, cooling will be very gradual with the forecast in Kelowna call for the high 30s into the weekend.
