A 37-year-old man is dead after what police believe to be a targeted shooting in Metchosin, southwest of Victoria, on Friday evening.

West Shore RCMP said officers were called to the 4600 block of Kangaroo Road, near Badger Place, around 9 p.m. Friday for a report that a man had been shot.

Officers found a man dead at the scene.

West Shore RCMP said he was known to police, and they believe the shooting was targeted based on initial evidence gathered at the scene.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation. No arrests have been made.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting and anyone who was in the area between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. Friday to contact VIIMCU at 250-380-6211 or West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.

Sooke Road and Kangaroo Road are closed, as is Highway 14 in both directions between Impala Road and Humpback Road. Eastbound traffic on the highway can detour on Gillespie Road, and westbound traffic can take Happy Valley Road.
