Vancouver couple charged after travelling to Yukon, posing as locals and accessing COVID-19 vaccine

A couple from Vancouver who allegedly travelled to Yukon to get the COVID-19 vaccine is facing charges.

The pair took a plane to Beaver Creek, Yukon, and posed as local workers. This allowed them to access the Moderna vaccine at a mobile clinic, according to CTV News Vancouver.

"We're pretty upset here,” says John Streicker, Yukon Community Services Minister.

“(We’re) really frustrated that these two Canadians would come to the Yukon while we're trying to keep our communities safe and they went to one of our smaller communities and they put that community at risk.”

According to Streicker, before entering the territory, the man and woman filled out self-isolation declarations but did not follow isolation rules.

The pair were intercepted and charged at the Whitehorse Airport before attempting to leave.

The couple is now facing charges under Yukon’s Civil Emergency Measures Act which carries a maximum fine of $500 and up to six months in jail.
