Interior Health will continue COVID-19 contact tracing throughout the winter break

School break COVID tracing

Interior Health will continue contact tracing for any cases identified at schools in the region throughout the winter break.

But the way they notify parents, staff and students will change between Dec. 19 to Jan. 1, while schools are no longer in session.

In a letter sent to parents Dec. 18, IH wrote that rather than sending letters through schools, as has been the practice to date, they will "communicate directly with anyone at risk of COVID-19 over the holidays."

"IH will also continue online notification of potential COVID-19 school exposures by posting on the IH website," the health authority wrote.

"We encourage school community members to monitor this website for any updates on their school."

IH will follow up with COVID-19 cases and close contacts in the school setting and notify anyone who needs to self-isolate or receive their own testing.

"It is imperative that everyone follow the provincial public health orders that are in place and avoid gatherings over the winter break," the letter reads.

"This will minimize the number of cases and contacts impacting school in the New Year."
