Fire crews holding visible wildfire east of Kimberley

Visible wildfire now 'held'

The BC Wildfire Service has gotten a handle on a small wildfire burning east of Kimberley.

The two-hectare Stirton Road wildfire is now classified as “held,” meaning the blaze is not expected to grow further. Ground crews, air tankers and the Kimberley fire department responded.

The public is being advised for the potential of skimming to happen at St. Mary’s Lake.

“The BC Wildfire Service thanks residents for allowing our aircraft to work safely and is asking that those recreating in the area be aware of their surroundings and mindful of aircraft working on the lake,” the service said on Twitter.

It is expected smoke from the fire will continue to be visible from the Kimberley and Marysville areas for a week while crews work to extinguish the fire.
