B.C. has 29 new cases of COVID-19 and no deaths in past 24 hours

There have been 29 new cases of COVID-19 discovered in British Columbia over the past 24 hours, four of which have come from the Interior Health region. 

The new cases bring the total number of positive cases in the province to 3,591, with 360 total cases in the Interior. With 3,155 total recoveries, there remains 242 active COVID-19 cases across B.C.

The four new cases in the Interior come after there were no new cases in the region Wednesday, for the first time since July 6.

Province-wide, five people are in hospital with the virus, the lowest number the province has seen since mid-March. 

No new virus-related deaths have occurred in the past 24 hours, and the total number of deaths remain at 194. 

There have been no new COVID-19 outbreaks in B.C., but outbreaks remain in place at one long-term care home, one acute care facility, Haida Gwaii and Abbotsford's Fraser Valley Packers. No new cases have been discovered on Haida Gwaii, but cases connected to the fruit processing plant has grown to 59.

During her press conference Thursday, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry urged British Columbians to practice safe COVID-19 measures during the coming long weekend, after dozens of cases were spread across B.C. from a single group of tourists in Kelowna last long weekend.
