Dr. Bonnie Henry provides an update on COVID-19 in B.C.

24 new virus cases, 3 deaths

Over the past 48 hours, there have been 24 new cases of COVID-19 identified in British Columbia, along with three new deaths.

Fifteen of the new cases were identified between Tuesday and Wednesday, while the other nine were confirmed  between Wednesday and Thursday. The new cases bring the total cases in the province to 2,940, but 160 active cases remain. Of these cases, 17 people are hospitalized, two of whom are in ICU. 

No new cases of COVID-19 were found in the Interior Health region, and one active case remains in the area. 

As of Thursday, the COVID-19 outbreak at Abbotsford's New World Technologies was officially declared over, and no community outbreaks remain in the province.

Outbreaks remain at four long-term care homes and one acute care facility. To date, 390 residents of long-term care homes have contracted the virus, along with 236 staff members.

The three new deaths, residents of long-term care homes in the Fraser and Vancouver Coastal Health regions, bring the total virus-related deaths in B.C. to 177.

To date, 2,603 British Columbians have fully recovered from the virus.
