Okanagan weather in lead up to Canada Day, Wednesday 1 July

Canada Day forecast shifts

UPDATE 11:40 a.m.

Meteorologist Doug Lundquist tells Castanet that today is going to be the good day, "but Tuesday to Thursday there's a system moving through our region that could set-off showers and even the possibility of thunderstorms."

Lundquist says the next three days will be unsettled, much like this past weekend, "some places got really hit, some places did not."

Lundquist says the best tactic is to check the Environment Canada satellite radar for the latest weather developments and he says it's a bit too far out but right now it looks like we could be in line for a nice weekend.

UPDATE 9:55 a.m.

Environment Canada has shifted its Canada Day forecast, with things looking a little bit more grey.

The Central Okanagan is now expecting a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 21 and 60 per cent chance of showers in the evening on Canada Day.

The forecast for the rest of the week has also been tweaked, with a 30 per cent chance of showers this evening and winds gusting to 40 km/h.

Tuesday will see a mix of sun and cloud and a 40 per cent chance of showers with a risk of a thunderstorm in the afternoon.

After a wetter than normal June for the Okanagan, the weather is expected to take a turn for the best in the lead up to Canada Day on Wednesday, July 1.

In Kelowna and Vernon, Monday is expected to bring mostly sunshine with a high of 25 C, followed by a 40 per cent chance of showers on Tuesday, according to Environment Canada's predictions.

Penticton is expecting the same outlook on Monday and Tuesday, with a slightly warmer high of 27 C and low of 13 C on Monday.

By Wednesday, it will be clear skies and sunny weather in all three locations, with a high of 24 C and low of 11 C across the board.

Kamloops is also expecting the sun to arrive in time for Canada Day
